Balancing Loss Discrimination and Congestion Control

چکیده
The stability of the Internet depends on the presence of well-behaved flows. While TCP forms the majority of the traffic over the Internet, the Internet user community is also dedicated to supporting mobile devices over wireless networks. However, TCP-like behavior is not well suited to support applications over lossy wireless networks. Ideally, these applications require a protocol that adapts to network conditions with the ability to discriminate congestion-based and transmission-based losses. In this thesis, we present a rate-based transport protocol that is designed to support Internet-based communication for mobile nodes using infrastructure-based wireless networks. We propose an end-to-end approach to loss discrimination based on network state estimation at the receiver. Discrimination is achieved by correlating short-term history of packet inter-arrival times with the loss. Simulations of our protocol prototype show that rate-based protocols can provide better correlation to network conditions than ACK-based protocols. We present an analytical model of XRTP’s congestion control that enabled us to detect the reasons for XRTP’s aggresive behavior. We provide extensions to XRTP’s congestion control and by extensive evaluation through simulations, we demonstrate that our protocol is well-behaved over a wide range of scenarios.

Mobile ad hoc network congestion control is a significant problem. Standard mechanism for congestion control (TCP), the ability to run certain features of a wireless network, several mutations are not common. In particular, the enormous changes in the network topology and the joint nature of the wireless network. It also creates significant challenges in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), density ...
متن کاملVarious Techniques Use In Wireless Sensor Network For Congestion Control
In WSN, usually tens or thousands of sensor nodes are deployed, scattered way in an area with one or more sinks. Moreover, for achieving reliability and load balancing, several multipath routing protocols have been proposed. But the limitation of these protocols is traffic overhead. Thus the occurrence of congestion in this situation is more likely.[3] The situation becomes worse when congestio...
متن کاملA Cross-layer Loss Discrimination Scheme for DCCP over the Wireless Network
DCCP (Datagram Congestion Control Protocol) is a transport layer protocol that provides congestion control for unreliable data transmission. The congestion control mechanism embedded in DCCP adjusts the packet sending rate according to network condition. However, DCCP does not discriminate congestion losses and wireless link errors resulted from fading and thus it leads to unnecessary rate adju...

In mobile ad hoc network (MANET), congestion is one of the most important limitations that affect the performance of the whole network. TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) are the reliable protocol for communication because of their connection oriented behavior. Multi-path routing protocol can balance and share the load better than the single path routing protocol in ad hoc networks, thereby re...
